"Lollipop" was written by Julius Dixon & Beverley Ross and released originally by "Ronald & Ruby' in February 1958. Record Company RCA bought the rights to the song and immediately released it as a single by the Chordettes (The Chordettes were famous for their 1954 hit "Mr. Sandman"). 

The song reached No.2 in the USA and No.6 in the UK and became a well known song across the globe. It has also become a regular Doo Wop song for barbershop quartets - here's one such cover by Scarlet Street:
